FRSC trains officers on Ebola control

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said it has trained its members to contain the spread and effect of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The Sector Commander of the commission in Anambra State, Sunday Ajayi, made this known Thursday at the Ebola Virus Disease alert campaign held in the commission’s office in Awka by the Ministry of Health officials of the state.

Ajayi said that before now, officers had been equipped to contain the virus by training and distributing test kits to them.

During the sensitisation programme conducted led by the Health Commissioner, Dr. Joe Akabuike, he explained that the programme became necessary because Anambra people “are mobile people who travel all over the world and in particular, the West African countries where the virus disease is rampant.”

Akabuike counselled that the beginning of detecting the disease is by following the history of the victim; namely knowing where he or she comes from and at what point he made certain contacts.

He warned that Ebola has symptoms of many other ailments common in Nigeria and so proper examination needed to be made before some one is confirmed as an Ebola carrier. Early presentation, he said, is key to curing it.
