The minister of power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has said that in line with the efforts to improve in the distribution of electricity, there will be a shutdown of gas infrastructure in Utorogu and Ughelli East in Delta State due to the ongoing maintenance and upgrade of some power plants.
In a statement signed by the senior speacial assistant to the minister, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the minister disclosed that at the completion of these scheduled maintenance and upgrade, the facilities will be re-commissioned to improve gas production and ensure quality output from the lines to the power plants. The shutdown which began yesterday will be completed on June 22, 2014.
While clarifying that the on-going maintenance will slightly affect power plants fed by these gas facilities which also include the Egbin and Omotosho power stations, the statement regretted the inconvenience the maintenance being carried out by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation (NPDC) will cause.
On his part, Nebo requested understanding and support of Nigerians in the difficult task of revamping the sector.
