FAYOSE TAKES OVER TODAY -EKITI BEEFS UP SECURITY

Amazing! Security has been beefed up in Ekiti State, ahead of the swearing in of Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as governor.

Fayose takes over from Governor Kayode Fayemi today, following the completion of the latter’s tenure in office.
Expected at the swearing-in are ministers, PDP leaders within and outside the state, serving and former PDP governors among others.
This is the second time Fayose would be sworn-in as governor of the state.
His first term was in 2003, when he defeated a sitting governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, in the governorship election.
He, was, however, impeached on October 16, 2006 by the then House of Assembly over allegations bordering on alleged corruption.
Chairman of the transition committee for the inauguration, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, said in an interview that his committee and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are ready for the event. He expressed optimism that the ceremony would be hitch-free.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Babayemi, said the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, has ordered the deployment of adequate manpower and equipment to police all the events. He added that bomb disposal units, counter terrorist units, Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Swift Response Squad (SRS) in addition to conventional and plain cloth detectives have been strategically positioned to ensure an eventful and crisis-free ceremony.
He said police personnel have also been mandated to embark on thorough stop and search of persons and vehicles to prevent trouble makers from infiltrating the venues.
“The commissioner of police appeals to the good people of the state to support and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure a hitch-free ceremony,” he said.
Some residents of the state spoke to Daily Trust on their expectations.
The state President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Mr. Bunmi Ajimoko, expressed hope that the new governor would replicate the feat recorded during his first tenure in office.
He said: “The terrain is not new to him. He has been on the seat before and he knows what he did that made people to vote for him again. He was worker-friendly during his first tenure, he should be worker-friendly this time also. Many things are on ground that the outgoing government left undone. What I expect him to do is to be focused. At the council level, we expect him to revamp the local government system.”
A retired principal, Sir R.O. Falana, said he was optimistic that the incoming administration will bring succour to the common man.
He said: “I expect him to industrialize the state. The unemployment level among our youths is high, so we expect him to address this. He has been empowering women but we want him to give at least 20 per cent of available appointments to women in order to empower them. He should also build on the achievements of Governor Fayemi, just as we expect him to have a cordial relationship with workers.”
